Cardinal Christophe Pierre was born in Rennes, France, and was educated in Madagascar, France, and Morocco before attending the Major Seminary of the Archdiocese of Rennes and the Catholic Institute of Paris. He served in the military from July 1965 to October 1966. He was ordained a priest in 1970. He has a Master in Sacred Theology and a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Lateran University. Having served the Holy See in various capacities for decades, Cardinal Pierre speaks French, Italian, English, Spanish, and Portuguese. In 2016, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to the United States.
