The Most Reverend Daniel E. Thomas was named the eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Toledo in October 2014. He was born and raised in Philadelphia, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. He earned a Licentiate in Sacred Theology in 1989 from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In 1990, he was assigned to serve as an Official of the then Congregation for Bishops. He also served as an Adjunct Spiritual Director at the Pontifical North American College Seminary. In 1995, he was named Monsignor, and in 2005 was named a Prelate of Honor. In 2005, Bishop Thomas was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption parish in Strafford, PA and in 2006 was named as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia where he served until coming to the Diocese of Toledo in 2014.
