Gustavo García-Siller was named Archbishop of San Antonio by Pope Benedict XVI on October 14, 2010, and installed on November 23, 2010. He was previously appointed an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago in 2003 by Pope Saint John Paul II.
Born in San Luis Potosi, S.L.P., Mexico, Archbishop Gustavo was the eldest of 15 children. In 1975, he professed as a member of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit. He ministers to communities with varied cultural backgrounds and has served on several committees for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He most recently served as the Committee Chairman for Cultural Diversity in the Church.
